Construction Day marked

As part of marking the National Construction Day 2010, the Federation of Contractors’ Associations of Nepal (FCAN) felicitated construction industries and supportive media with Jagdamba Steels-FCAN Award on Wednesday.

Chairman of the Constitution Assembly (CA) Subash Nemwang and businessmen presented the awards in different categories to various organisations.

The Western Regional Contractors’ Association won the Best Regional Association Award. Similarly, Swachhanda Nirman Sewa bagged the Best Construction Company for its work abroad.

Likewise, Gorkhapatra Daily, Aviyan FM-107.4 and Avenues Television were felicitated with the Best Supportive Media Award from among media organisations.

Speaking at the function, Y. D. Karki, President of FCAN, said that the presentation of awards would encourage construction entrepreneurs to develop the construction industry successfully.

It is an effort from the private sector to encourage entrepreneurs for the development of the construction industry, he added.

Shahil Agrawal, Managing Director of Jagdamba Steels, said that the Shanker Group, the owner of Jagdamba Steels, has around 20 industries across the country.

The Sanker Group has given employment to around 10,000 people, he said. "Jagdamba Steels alone has created around 3,000 jobs," he said.

He also claimed that Jagdamba Steels is the country’s industry with the highest transaction. "We have planed to establish a 50-MW hydropower project for our use," he said.
