Mainstreaming Risk Reduction in Metro Manila and Kathmandu

The members of 'Kathmandu Metropolitan City'(KMC) Project Working Committee (PWC) consisting of seven KMC staffs and one personnel from 'The National Society for Earthquake Technology' (NSET) visit Makati City from September 14 - 21, 2009.

The proposed visit of Kathmandu Metropolitan City to Makati City aims to engage the two cities in an exchange and sharing of knowledge and expertise in the fields of land use planning, emergency management, land consolidation and earthquake safe construction.  These technologies can be used to improve the capacities of the two cities in implementing projects to reduce the risk of disasters and in undertaking their respective urban functions. It is hoped that KMC can learn from the experience of Makati City in terms of developing and refining their city’s spatial strategy.

Recently, the Land use team of The Earthquakes and Megacities Initiative (EMI) conducted the 4th field KMC Risk-Sensitive Land Use Planning last 12-20 July 2009 at NSET Conference in Lalitpur, Nepal.
