CIAA scrap the rental agreements of Kalimati vegetable market

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoAC) to scrap its decision to let out without bidding 301 stalls for 15 years in Kalimati Fruit and Vegetable Market.

CIAA directed the ministry to scrap the rental agreements of the stalls saying the process was against Public Procurement Act-2063 and Competition Promotion Act-2063.

The ministry had rented out the stalls without proper bidding by amending by-laws under the Public Competition Promotion and Market Act-2006.

A board formed by the ministry during the tenure of erstwhile agriculture minister Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta had extended the tenure of contracts to 15 years from five years without a formal bidding process.
